We offer the island's only nuclear medicine service.  Nuclear Medicine is a medical specialty that allows diagnosis and treatment of diseases to be made by using a small amount of radioactive tracers.  After the tracer has been administered images are obtained with a gamma camera that show the localizatin of the tracer in the patient's body.  Physicians with special training interpret the studies for the diagnosis of the disease. Certain diseases can also be treated with radiotracers in nuclear medicine.

Currently we offer Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (SPECT) Studies (aka Stress Thalllium) on a monthly basis.  One of the key benefits of Nuclear studies is that the tests are extremely sensitive and allows the detection of many diseases at early stages.  Unlike other imaging studies that give only structural information, nuclear medicine tests provide information about the functional status and viability of different organs and tissues.

Two of our cardiologists are also sub-specialty board certfied in Nuclear Medicine allowing prompt, comprehensive reports to referring physicians.

If you have  known cardiovascular disease, and especially if you have previously had cardiac intervention such as PCI with stenting or Bypass Surgery, please talk to your primary care physician about a recommended follow up protocol. Nuclear studies are a useful tool to evaluate patients with known CAD.
